Cost Reimbursement Program Summary
South Toms River First Aid & Rescue Squad, INC. (STRFAS) has implemented and EMS Service Cost Reimbursement Program effective June 1, 2015.
In the past, EMS was solely funded through and annual donations provided by The Borough of South Toms River, the Township of Berkeley, and the generosity of donations from residents. With this change, EMS will be funded primarily with revenues generated from EMS Billing reimbursement.
South Toms River First Aid has implemented an EMS Service Billing for Reimbursement program which will allow revenue to be generated by billing Medicare/Medicaid, insurers and other third party payment programs for EMS services rendered. It is the intent of this program, to seek service reimbursement, only from insurance revenues collected for qualified residents of the communities we respond to regularly, Toms River, South Toms River, Beachwood, Berkeley Township, Pine Beach, Ocean Gate, and Lacey Township.
What this means is we are not going to aggressively collect on bills for people who are required to pay a deductible, uninsured or have a balance after insurance payment.
Residents of other towns we provide service to are offered our services the same as our residents. This is because of the mutual aid that is provided to our agencies from your towns agencies as needed.
South Toms River First Aid Squad, INC. is available to speak with any resident to answer any questions you may have about the EMS Billing Reimbursement program and to answer any questions regarding our services you have been billed for. Please feel free to contact the EMS Building at 732-341-3339 and request to speak with Chief Robert M. Krohn or Deputy Chief Glenn-Michael Lees. If neither is available please feel free to leave a message and a return phone number and we will return your call promptly. You may also Email us: Chief@strfas.org or Deputychief@strfas.org
Depending on the nature of your emergency, you may receive a bill from Ocean County’s Advanced Life Support provider, MONOC. STREMS has made several attempts to develop an agreement that would be mutually beneficial to both services, and mitigate any financial burden to our residents; however, MONOC’s corporate leadership has refused to entertain any dialogue regarding that subject. We encourage patients to urge MONOC to reconsider their company practices, by contacting them directly.
